Hobbies.

Got Rikaritta Aries (Sakura Wars, whee) set up over at 3M. Her source material plops her right on the dividing line between 1) cute, 2) badass, 3) comic relief, and 4) main heroine material. This... is not a character type that I've really played before, so she's been a surprisingly fun character thus far.

... on the other hand, MINT (sort of) falls into those four categories (cute, badass, comic relief, main heroine), and I've been having a hard time getting back into the groove with her. And by 'hard', I mean 'have been idling forever' (upon hindsight, it's been nearly three months. Dear lord). The last time that sort of thing happened was back at VL. This is probably not a good thing.

I've held her for almost two years now (total combined time over two different MUSHs, granted). I took her up because 1) she's cool, and 2) playing her would be a challenge (the ladylike politeness part, not the psychopathic costume/candy-lover part). I've been having trouble with the latter point. Granted, I'm not sure if 'has trouble doing politeness' says something about me, but... I can't even think of a good way to fit her into radio conversations, and suitably Mint-like witty repartee is getting me stumped.

... part of it may be my current WHOAAA SAKURA WARS rush. As with Galaxy Angel, the games are Japanese-only- every other of the series' mediums (anime and manga) has gotten to the US. I've beaten all five of the major Sakura Wars games at least once- which brings me to the next point point:

Game-wise, Sakura Wars has done everything that Galaxy Angel was trying to do.

While the settings for SW and GA are different (Steampunk 1920's versus Far Future), the premise of both series are, at the very core, the same: both are mecha strategy games mixed with dating sims. In both, the commander's (the protagonist's) relationship with the (all female) pilots heavily affect the latter's combat ability- if you rock with the whole 'trust and friendship thing' and build a strong bond with each pilot, the next battle's going to be a breeze. And once you choose your Chosen Heroine, prepare to rock the socks off of evil itself because your love for her is like a truck love conquers all and makes things explode.

Both are solid series with interesting characters, but... after the first game, Galaxy Angel more or less stagnated, at least for me. The Adventure (i.e. dating sim) parts were fun, and the Strategy parts were a blast to play through; over the course of three games, though, little changed, and the difficulty level has remained fairly low. Meanwhile, Sakura Wars has been innovating since the first game came out, and it's been one steady line of improvements since then, even in the face of new casts and one fairly unfortunate choice of settings (long story).

I played GA first. Then, fairly recently, I discovered the SW series. My love for the GA games has faded since then, I think- which is a problem, because the games are the basis upon which I have been playing Mint.

... to sum up that massive chunk of paragraph-separated text: it's been a blast playing Mint, but I'm seriously considering dropping her after idling for so long. This would be in the face of a cast that is both awesome AND complete, and everyone that I've wrought a psychopathic Mint upon scened with.
